During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Wenzong Li Ang, accompanied by Cheng Xiuji, visited the imperial garden to admire the flowers. The garden was filled with a splendid array of blossoms, each vying for attention with vibrant colors.
Emperor Wenzong was particularly struck by the beauty of the 'King of Peonies' and asked Cheng Xiuji about the most renowned peony poems in the capital. Cheng Xiuji replied by reciting a famous couplet by Li Zhengfeng, a Censor of the Central Secretariat: 'Heavenly fragrance permeates the robes at night, national beauty glows like wine at dawn.'
