In 814 AD, after Wu Shaoyin, the military governor of Huaixi, died, his son Wu Yuanji failed to inherit his father's position. He then led his army in rebellion, burning, killing, and plundering.
Prime Minister Pei Du led an army to suppress the revolt. Li Shuo volunteered to take on the crucial task of quelling the Huaixi rebellion. He led his cavalry to attack Wu Yuanji's stronghold and captured him alive.
The common people were so grateful to the imperial army that they shed tears.
