Story:
During the Spring and Autumn period, the military strategist Sun Wu (Sun Tzu) believed that the best strategy was to make the enemy surrender with their state intact, while attacking and breaking their country was inferior.
He advocated for being adept at using schemes to subdue the enemy without fighting. At the same time, one must 'know oneself and know the enemy' to be '百战不殆' (victorious in every battle without peril).
Sun Wu stated that being victorious in every battle ('百战百胜') was not the highest level of skill; only subduing the enemy without engaging in battle was truly superior.
