Origin and Story of 鬼哭狼嚎

During the Warring States period, Pang Juan, a disciple of the strategist Guiguzi, was appointed Lord Wuyin and Grand Marshal by the King of Wei after completing his studies. He seized an opportunity to set a trap for his junior fellow apprentice, Sun Bin, leading to Sun Bin's legs being severed.

Later, Sun Bin was appointed military strategist by the State of Qi. He devised the strategy of "adding soldiers and reducing cooking stoves" (添兵减灶) to lure Pang Juan into an ambush. At Maling Road, Sun Bin's forces defeated Pang Juan's army so thoroughly that they cried and wailed like ghosts and wolves. Overwhelmed by defeat, Pang Juan drew his sword and committed suicide.
