Story:
During the Warring States period, King Min of Qi claimed to enjoy befriending scholars. He asked Yin Wen why there seemed to be no true scholars in the State of Qi.
Yin Wen explained that scholars are those who uphold loyalty, filial piety, trustworthiness, and righteousness. King Min agreed with this definition.
Yin Wen then posed a question: "Would you consider a scholar who is humiliated in public, yet dares not defend himself, to be a good scholar?"
King Min promptly replied that he would not be willing to employ such individuals.
