During the Song Dynasty, Bao Zheng was an upright and incorruptible official, known for his integrity.
When he assumed the post of county magistrate of Tianchang in Yangzhou, he penned a poem to encourage himself: "A pure heart is the foundation of governance; a straight path is how one conducts oneself."
Throughout his life, he dared to offer candid advice to superiors, never sought personal gain, enforced laws with unwavering strictness, was absolutely impartial, feared no powerful figures, disregarded personal feelings, and eliminated harm for the common people.
He thus became the revered "Justice Bao" in the hearts of the populace.
