During the Spring and Autumn period, Zi Yu asked Zigong, a disciple of Confucius, why Confucius always learned about the governance of any state he visited.
Zigong explained that his venerable teacher was gentle, kind, respectful, frugal, and deferential. He treated others with such an attitude, and people naturally confided in him about state affairs. This was his distinct virtue.
