Story:
During the Sui Dynasty, among the sons of Dou Chi, the Grand Tutor, only Dou Wei was a devoted bookworm. He was appointed as the Secretary responsible for managing the imperial library's books and classics.
His brothers, however, followed Yang Guang in the conquest of the Southern Chen Dynasty and returned with immense wealth and treasures. As a result, their residences were constantly bustling with visitors, with 'guests filling their doors.' In stark contrast, Dou Wei's entrance remained quiet, with few carriages or horses, earning his home the reputation of 'the humble Dou household.'
This modest disposition and dedication to scholarship later earned him significant trust and an important position under Emperor Gaozu of Tang, Li Yuan.
