Story:
During the Warring States period, Duke Xiao of Qin appointed Shang Yang to implement a series of political and economic reforms in the state of Qin. Prince Si, who was the crown prince, violated the new laws and was consequently punished by Shang Yang.
As a result of these reforms, the state of Qin gradually grew strong and prosperous. Later, Prince Si ascended to the throne and became King Huiwen of Qin.
Harboring a grudge, King Huiwen sought to punish Shang Yang for his past actions. Shang Yang attempted to flee, but due to the very laws and strict system he had established, no one dared to offer him refuge or assistance.
In a twist of fate, Shang Yang was ultimately hoist with his own petard – he fell victim to the very legal framework he had created – and was eventually captured and executed by King Qin.
