During the Western Han Dynasty, Li Ling, a Han general who had already surrendered to the Xiongnu, was ordered by the Chanyu to persuade Su Wu to surrender.
Li Ling pointed out that Su Wu's two brothers, despite their loyalty to the Han Dynasty, did not receive good rewards, hoping Su Wu would defect to the Xiongnu.
