Story:
During the reign of Emperor Zhenzong in the Song Dynasty, there was an upright official named Li Chui. He deeply disliked the sycophantic behavior prevalent in official circles. He was even demoted for openly criticizing Chancellor Ding Wei.
Later, when Emperor Renzong came to power, Ding Wei was dismissed, and Li Chui was summoned back to the capital.
Many people advised him to pay a visit to the new Chancellor. However, Li Chui responded, "I frequently criticize ministers who act unjustly. How can I now go and fawn upon the powerful, echoing those with influence?" As a result, he was demoted once again not long after.
