It is said that during the era of Yao, Shun, and Yu, before Shun became a supreme leader, he was wholeheartedly dedicated to public service and was deeply admired by the common people.
When he moved for the first time, an entire village of people followed him. Upon his second relocation, the number of people who followed him was as many as those living in a capital city. By his third move, the multitude of his followers was equivalent to an entire state.
Later, he was recommended by Emperor Yao to be his successor.
