Terms of Service

Hanzi Now provides Chinese language references, learning resources and tools for activities such as pinyin conversion, text images, worksheets, animations and speech playback. Features and availability may change. Some tools operate in your browser; others depend on our servers or external providers.

You must be able to agree to these terms under the laws that apply to you. If you need a parent’s or guardian’s permission to use the service or provide personal information, obtain that permission first. You are responsible for using the service lawfully and for the information you submit.

Where enabled, Google sign-in creates or accesses a Hanzi Now account. Use a Google account you are authorized to use, protect access to it, and sign out of shared browsers. Your Hanzi Now account is separate from your Google account. Signing out of or deleting Hanzi Now does not delete your Google account.

Account features allow you to manage your profile and browser sessions. A sign-in does not by itself create a subscription, purchase, cloud backup or promise to synchronize local history and drafts. If you suspect unauthorized access, revoke sessions where possible and contact support@hanzi.now.

You must not use Hanzi Now to:

• Submit or distribute unlawful content, violate another person’s privacy or intellectual property rights, impersonate others, or misuse an account.
• Upload malicious code, probe for unauthorized access, steal credentials, or interfere with service availability.
• Bypass access checks, security measures, rate limits or usage restrictions, or generate automated traffic that disrupts the service.
• Send spam through feedback, support or notification forms, or misrepresent your relationship with Hanzi Now.

For bulk access, redistribution of our collections or automated integrations, contact us to discuss permission and capacity. Publicly accessible pages do not grant unrestricted access to infrastructure or third-party datasets.

You retain any rights you have in text and other material you submit. You give us permission to process, transmit, store and cache that material as needed to perform the feature you request, display its results and operate the service, as described in the Privacy Policy. This permission does not transfer ownership of your original material to Hanzi Now.

Only submit material you have the right to use. Check whether search results, playback pages or generated media links are shareable before submitting anything confidential. A link that is difficult to guess is not a private storage or access-control guarantee.

You may download and use tool exports for lawful purposes, subject to any rights in your inputs, fonts, images, audio, datasets and other third-party materials. Hanzi Now does not grant rights it does not own or guarantee that generated content is exclusive, copyrightable or suitable for a particular commercial use.

Dictionary entries, translations, pronunciation, generated names, cultural explanations and AI-assisted results may contain mistakes or omit context. Verify important results with an appropriate reference or qualified person before relying on them. The service provides learning and creative assistance; it is not professional legal, medical or other specialist advice.

Hanzi Now and its licensors retain their rights in the website’s design, software, branding and content, except for your material and content governed by separate licenses. Use of the site does not transfer ownership of those materials. Any published open-source, font or content license continues to apply to the material it covers.

Google sign-in, hosting, analytics, speech services and external websites are provided by their respective operators. Their terms and policies apply to their services. We do not control external websites or guarantee their continued availability.

We may apply usage limits, change or remove features, or temporarily interrupt access for maintenance, security or provider outages. We may restrict or suspend access when reasonably necessary to address abuse, violations of these terms or legal requirements. We will provide notice where appropriate and required.

You can stop using Hanzi Now at any time. Where account features are available, you can request deletion from Account after verifying your identity. Account deletion and retention are described in our Privacy Policy. Local browser records and separately submitted feedback or notification requests require separate action.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, the service is provided “as is” and “as available,” without a promise of uninterrupted access, error-free results or suitability for a particular purpose. Keep your own copies of important inputs and downloads.

To the extent permitted by applicable law, Hanzi Now is not responsible for indirect or consequential losses arising from service interruptions, inaccurate results or loss of locally stored data. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot legally be excluded, removes mandatory consumer protections, or limits rights that applicable law gives you.

We may revise these terms as the service changes and will update the date shown above. We will give additional notice and obtain agreement when required by applicable law. We will consider concerns in good faith; any mandatory rights and remedies under applicable law remain available.
