Story:

During the Western Zhou Dynasty, Ji Shengzi was a man specialized in raising fighting cocks for King Xuan.

King Xuan repeatedly urged Ji Shengzi, asking about the progress of the fighting cocks. After 10 days, Ji Shengzi reported, "They are not yet fully trained; they are still vain and arrogant, relying on their temper (虚骄恃气)."

Forty days later, the fighting cock Ji Shengzi raised became like a wooden one, motionless and unperturbed. Other chickens would flee upon seeing it. This cock became unbeatable.
