Story:
During the Southern and Northern Dynasties, Emperor Wen of the Song dynasty intended to expand his territory northward. He appointed generals like Wang Yunmo to oversee the northern expedition.
However, Shen Qingzhi repeatedly advised against it, earnestly explaining the lessons learned from previous failed northern campaigns.
Displeased, Emperor Wen asked several civil officials to debate the military matters with Shen Qingzhi. Shen Qingzhi responded by saying that governing a country is akin to managing a household: 'When plowing, one should consult the servant; when weaving, one should consult the maidservant.' He implied that discussing such practical matters with inexperienced scholars was futile.
