相互尊重 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to show mutual respect and regard for one another's feelings, rights, and differences; to value each other equally”. Literally, “mutual respect”.
During the Warring States period, Yan Ying, the prime minister of the State of Qi, learned that the virtuous man Yue Shiwen had been sold into slavery by his master. Yan Ying spent money to redeem him.
He rode back to his residence with Yue Shiwen in his carriage, but did not offer Yue Shiwen a seat and went home first upon alighting. Seeing that Yan Ying showed him no respect, Yue Shiwen decided to leave.
Yan Ying realized this, immediately invited him into his house, and made him a trusted assistant.
