海屋添筹 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “a metaphor for immense longevity”. Often used to express wishes for a long and prosperous life. Literally, “Add tallies to the sea house”.
Legend has it that in ancient times, three old men met and inquired about each other's ages.
One said he couldn't recall his exact age, only remembering his acquaintance with Pangu in his youth.
Another claimed that every time he witnessed the sea transform into mulberry fields, he would add a tally stick, and by then, his tally sticks could fill ten houses.
The third old man stated that the pits from the celestial peaches he had eaten, which he discarded at the foot of Kunlun Mountain, had now grown to be as tall as Kunlun Mountain itself.
