白云孤飞 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to be away from home and long for one's parents”. To feel lonely and miss one's parents when living far away. Literally, “A lone white cloud flies”.
During the Tang Dynasty, Di Renjie served as the judicial adjutant of Bingzhou. He was far away from his parents and unable to see them.
One day, he ascended Mount Taihang, turned to gaze towards Heyang in the distance, and told his companions that his parents resided beneath the distant white clouds. He watched that patch of white clouds intently for a long time, until it vanished from his sight.
