曾参杀人 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “it signifies the dreadful power of rumors or malicious gossip”. Baseless accusations can ruin one's reputation and trust. Literally, “Zeng Shen killed a man”.
During the Spring and Autumn period, there was a man in the State of Lu who shared the same name as the great philosopher Zeng Shen, and this man committed murder. Some busybodies ran to Zeng Shen's mother and said, "Zeng Shen killed a man."
Zeng Shen's mother replied, "My son would never kill anyone," and continued weaving as usual. Not long after, another person came running to mistakenly report that Zeng Shen had killed a man.
At this point, Zeng Shen's mother became frightened, threw her shuttle, and fled over the wall.
