美轮美奂 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Magnificent”. Splendid, and sumptuously grand, typically used to describe large and beautiful buildings or structures. Literally, “Beautiful, grand, and splendid”.
When Zhao Wu, a prominent official from the Jin state, completed his new residence, Zhang Lao, another high official, came to offer his congratulations. He exclaimed, "How magnificent and splendid it is! May you sing here, weep here, and gather your clan here!"
Others present were quite surprised by such an unusual greeting. Zhao Wu, however, understood its deeper meaning and replied, "If I can indeed sing here, weep here, and gather my clan here, it would mean that I have lived a complete and peaceful life, able to join my ancestors in the netherworld with my body intact."
People praised Zhao Wu for his wisdom in accepting the 'good praise and good wish' (善颂善祷).
