朝朝暮暮 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “from morning till night”. Day and night; continuously, implying constant presence or the persistent passage of time. Literally, “mornings and evenings”.
Legend has it that King Xiang of ancient times was touring the Gaotang region. Feeling very tired, he took a nap during the day.
In his dream, he saw a fairy maiden who said, "I am from Gaotang. Hearing of your arrival, I am willing to serve as your pillow and mat." King Xiang lay with her.
Before parting, she said, "I dwell on the southern slope of Mount Wu, amidst high hills and steep ravines. In the morning, I become the morning clouds; in the evening, I transform into traveling rain. Morning after morning, evening after evening, I will be beneath Yangtai."
