During the Western Zhou Dynasty, after King Wu of Zhou died, the Duke of Zhou acted as regent. He suppressed the rebellion of King Wu's younger brothers, Guan Shu and Cai Shu.

King Cheng of Zhou, King Wu's son, influenced by rumors, doubted the Duke of Zhou's loyalty. Consequently, 'the heavens sent great thunder and lightning, all the grain crops flattened, large trees were uprooted, and the people of the land were terrified.'

Later, when the Duke of Zhou resumed his administration, a strong wind made the flattened grain stalks stand up again. From then on, the country enjoyed peace and prosperity.
