史策丹心 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to possess an unwavering loyalty and integrity that is highly regarded and remembered in historical records; an unyielding spirit”. Literally, “Loyal heart in historical annals”.
At the end of the Southern Song Dynasty, Wen Tianxiang, who was resisting the Yuan forces, was defeated and captured.
He was then escorted to Chaoyang Prefecture to meet Zhang Hongfan, the Mongol marshal. Zhang Hongfan hoped that Wen Tianxiang would surrender and also asked him to write a letter to General Zhang Shijie, urging him to surrender as well.
Wen Tianxiang unequivocally refused. He immediately composed a famous poem: "Frightened I was at Frightened Beach, and despaired at Lonely Ocean. Since ancient times, who can escape death? Let my loyal heart illuminate the historical annals."
