惴惴不安 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to be filled with apprehension and uneasiness”. To feel extremely anxious and disturbed. Literally, “Anxious and uneasy”.
The idiom 'Zhuì Zhuì Bù Ān' originates from an event during the Spring and Autumn Period (771-476 BC).
In 621 BC, Duke Mu of Qin, one of the Five Hegemons, passed away. As was the custom, over 100 people were forced to be buried alive with him, including the three highly respected and capable brothers of the Ziche family, who were loyal ministers.
The people of Qin were deeply saddened and outraged by this barbaric act, especially regarding the fate of the Ziche brothers. They felt profoundly uneasy and anxious (惴惴不安) in their hearts, lamenting the injustice and even expressing a desire to sacrifice themselves in place of the brothers.
