During the Tang Dynasty, Emperor Taizong greatly appreciated Wang Gui, a minister known for his candidness. The Emperor once asked Wang Gui to evaluate other prominent officials like Fang Xuanling, Li Jing, and Wei Zheng.

Wang Gui replied that he was not as diligent in handling state affairs as Fang Xuanling, nor did he possess the combined civil and military talents of Li Jing, nor was he as skilled at remonstrating as Wei Zheng.

However, Wang Gui asserted that when it came to distinguishing right from wrong, promoting the good and condemning the corrupt, and detesting evil while loving good, he surpassed all three of them.
