During the Three Kingdoms period, Zhu Ju, the Marquis of Yunyang in the State of Wu, was known for his humble demeanor towards scholars and his generosity in giving to others. Sun Quan recognized him as a man of both literary and martial talents and subsequently married his daughter to him.

Once, thirty thousand strings of military pay for Zhu Ju's troops were deceitfully taken by a person named Wang Sui. The palace attendant Lu Yi, suspecting Zhu Ju of embezzlement, reported him to Sun Quan.

Sun Quan, however, felt this was unlike Zhu Ju's character and ordered an investigation, which ultimately uncovered the truth and exonerated Zhu Ju.
