遇人不淑 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to be unfortunate in marriage (of a woman, referring to marrying a bad husband); a woman marrying a dishonorable or unvirtuous man”. Literally, “meet an unvirtuous person”.
The earliest collection of Chinese poetry, The Classic of Poetry (Shijing), contains verses depicting the difficult lives of women. It speaks of how challenging it is for a woman to truly know a person, and if she mistakenly marries a faithless man, her life will be unhappy. Eventually, abandoned by her husband, she can only bitterly sigh, regretting that she had "met an unvirtuous person" (遇人不淑).
