Story:

After the Southern Chen dynasty fell, its last emperor, Chen Shubao, was captured and brought to Chang'an. Emperor Wen of the Sui dynasty treated him with some leniency, even avoiding playing music from the Wu region in his presence to prevent him from feeling the pain of his lost kingdom.

Unexpectedly, officials watching over Chen Shubao later reported to Emperor Wen that Chen Shubao wished to be granted an official title.

Upon hearing this, Emperor Wen exclaimed, "Shubao is completely without a heart!" (叔宝全无心肝).
