国士无双 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “an unparalleled talent”. A peerless individual of exceptional ability. Literally, “A national scholar without peer”.
During the late Qin Dynasty, Han Xin, feeling undervalued by Xiang Yu, switched his allegiance to Liu Bang. Initially, he also wasn't given significant responsibilities.
However, upon Teng Gong's recommendation to Xiao He, Xiao He recognized Han Xin as a rare and invaluable talent and subsequently recommended him to Liu Bang. Liu Bang, at first, was dismissive.
Disheartened, Han Xin left without a word. Xiao He, realizing the immense loss, chased after Han Xin under the moonlight.
Upon his return, Xiao He strongly advised Liu Bang, declaring Han Xin to be a 'Guoshi Wushuang' (an unparalleled talent). Convinced, Liu Bang then appointed Han Xin as a Grand General.
