During the Spring and Autumn period, Confucius, a great philosopher, was eager to promote his political and ethical philosophy. He traveled extensively across different states, advocating his ideas to various rulers. He was so dedicated to his mission that he often did not stay long in any one place.

It was said that he would frequently leave for the next destination even before his mat had time to warm up from his sitting. The Han dynasty historian Ban Gu later remarked on this, saying, "Confucius's mat never got warm," highlighting his tireless efforts and constant journeys.
