During the Warring States period, the Qin army launched an offensive against the State of Wei. Wei hastily mustered its forces to resist.

In the ensuing Battle of Shangjun, a brutal conflict unfolded, characterized by immense bloodshed and countless casualties, resulting in the death of all 30,000 Wei soldiers. Following their victory, the Qin army occupied Shangjun, pillaged its villages, and seized the populace.

The State of Qin continued its relentless aggression against the other six states, perpetrating numerous atrocities. Lord Chunshen, reflecting on these devastating events, remarked: "Heads and bodies were separated, bones lay exposed in the wilderness, and skulls were scattered."
