微文深诋 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to twist facts or fabricate charges using subtle and intricate language to incriminate an innocent person; to unjustly condemn by crafting elaborate and misleading accusations”. Literally, “Subtle writings and deep denigration”.
During the Han Dynasty, General Wei Qing promoted Xian Xuan to an official position. Xian Xuan rose quickly through the ranks, eventually becoming Zhongcheng (an imperial censor).
He was tasked with handling the cases of Zhu Fuyan and the rebellion in Huainan. Displaying great cunning, he used subtle and convoluted language to compile charges against many people, leading to numerous executions and widespread panic.
This extreme and unjust approach ultimately led to his own suicide.
