Story:
Jia Lian secretly married You Erjie. Wang Xifeng, his primary wife, pretended to be welcoming and brought You Erjie back to the Rongguo Mansion, secretly plotting against her.
Around this time, Jia She, Jia Lian's father, bestowed his maid Qiu Tong upon Jia Lian as a concubine.
Qiu Tong, full of jealousy, could not tolerate You Erjie and soon complained to Grandmother Jia.
Without thoroughly investigating, Grandmother Jia sighed, "Feng Yatou (Wang Xifeng) meant well for her, yet she (You Erjie) is so contentious and jealous. What a contemptible wretch (jian gutou)!" She was implying that You Erjie was ungrateful despite Wang Xifeng's supposed kindness, showing a lack of self-respect or understanding of good intentions.
