郦寄卖友 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Liji betrays his friend”. To betray a friend for personal gain or convenience. Literally, “Liji sells friend”.
During the Western Han Dynasty, Liji was on very good terms with Lü Lu, a relative of Empress Dowager Lü, and thereby gained wealth and prestige.
After Empress Dowager Lü's death, many ministers planned to eliminate the Lü clan. General Lü Lu was in charge of the Northern Army, and Grand Commandant Zhou Bo could not gain access to it.
Zhou Bo then conspired with Liji's father, who advised Liji to trick Lü Lu into going out for an outing. This allowed Zhou Bo to enter and take control of the Northern Army, subsequently killing Lü Lu.
