Story:

It is said that Master Daosheng was expelled by his teacher. He returned to the south and resided in a temple on Tiger Hill.

There, he spent his days lecturing on the Nirvana Sutra to a group of stones. Whenever he reached a particularly brilliant passage, he would ask the stones if they understood the Buddha-nature. Miraculously, all the stones would nod in agreement as if truly comprehending.

Onlookers quickly spread word of this wonder, and within ten days, a growing number of people came to him, eager to become his disciples.
