During the Western Han Dynasty, King Yuan of Chu and Mu Sheng were close friends. Mu Sheng did not like alcohol, so King Yuan would specially prepare sweet wine ("醴酒") for him at every banquet.

Later, when King Wu of Chu ascended the throne, sweet wine was no longer prepared at banquets.

Mu Sheng remarked, 'The King's regard for me is not what it used to be. I should leave. If I don't, I might face a fatal disaster.' So, he left the royal court.
