While visiting the ancient Kaishan Temple on Zhongshan Mountain, he observed the various statues of Vajras and Bodhisattvas in the temple, each with a distinct appearance. Curious, he asked a young monk why the Vajras had wrathful eyes while the Bodhisattvas lowered their eyebrows.
The young monk explained that the Vajras' wrathful eyes were meant to subdue demons, while the Bodhisattvas lowered their eyebrows to show their immense compassion and benevolence towards all sentient beings in the world.
