Story:
Fan Sui accompanied Xu Jia, a senior official from the state of Wei, on a diplomatic mission to the state of Qi. Xu Jia suspected Fan Sui of conspiring with Qi and reported him to the Wei prime minister upon their return. Fan Sui was unjustly beaten and injured.
He then changed his name to Zhang Lu and fled to the state of Qin, where he eventually became its prime minister.
Later, Xu Jia was sent on a diplomatic mission to Qin. Fan Sui disguised himself as a poor man and went to meet him. Seeing Fan Sui's impoverished state, Xu Jia kindly gave him a coarse silk gown.
When Xu Jia later discovered that this 'poor man' was actually the prime minister of Qin, he was terrified and repeatedly apologized. Fan Sui, however, did not seek revenge.
