Origin and Story of 镜破钗分
During the decline of the Chen Dynasty in the Southern Dynasties, Xu Deyan, the emperor's son-in-law, and his wife Princess Lechang, fearing they could not remain together, broke a bronze mirror into two halves. Each kept one half and went their separate ways, vowing to reunite on the fifteenth day of the first lunar month by selling their half-mirror in the market to find each other.
After the fall of the Chen Dynasty, the princess became a concubine in Yang Su's household.
When the appointed day arrived, Xu Deyan traveled with great difficulty to Chang'an, found his wife selling the broken mirror, and the couple was reunited.
