青毡旧物 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “a cherished heirloom or valuable old possession”. An object passed down through generations that holds sentimental or monetary value.
During the Eastern Jin Dynasty, the great calligrapher Wang Xianzhi was a magnanimous person. One night, after working late, he fell asleep in his study. Coincidentally, that night, several thieves broke into the study and began stuffing all the valuable items into their bags.
When one of them was about to take an old felt rug, Wang Xianzhi said, 'You can take the valuable things, but please leave the green felt rug.'
