During the Warring States period, Zhuangzi, a representative of Taoism, told a story: There was a butcher for King Hui of Liang, whose skill in slaughtering oxen was extremely proficient. His knife moved flexibly through the joints of the ox's bones without any hindrance, and with a rhythmic flow.

King Hui of Liang was mesmerized and kept praising his superb skill.

The butcher explained that he had been butchering oxen for 19 years and completely understood the ox's structure.
