避面尹邢 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to shun or avoid meeting someone due to jealousy or rivalry”. Often referring to women competing for favor. Literally, “Avoid the faces of Yin and Xing”.
During the Western Han Dynasty, Emperor Wu doted on both Lady Yin and Lady Xing, showing them great favor.
To prevent them from vying with each other, he issued an imperial decree forbidding them to meet.
Later, Lady Yin requested Emperor Wu to allow her to meet Lady Xing. After much deliberation, Emperor Wu agreed to her request.
Upon meeting, Lady Yin bowed her head in anguish, lamenting that she was not as good as Lady Xing.
