拔新领异 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to create new ideas and put forward unique insights”. To be innovative and original. Literally, “To pull out the new, to lead with the unique”.
During the Jin Dynasty, when Wang Xizhi was the Administrator of Kuaiji, Sun Xinggong recommended Zhi Daolin, stating that his views were innovative and unique. Wang Xizhi, being arrogant, was unwilling to converse with Zhi Daolin, who then quietly withdrew.
Later, when Wang Xizhi was out on business, he met the eminent monk Zhi Daolin and began discussing "Zhuangzi - Xiaoyao You" (Free and Easy Wandering). To his surprise, Zhi Daolin's discourse was exceptionally insightful and novel. Wang Xizhi was greatly impressed and admired him.
