Story:

The idiom 'Chì Zhà Fēng Yún' (叱咤风云) originated from a historical account during the Tang Dynasty. Wu Zetian, initially a concubine of Emperor Taizong, later became Empress to Emperor Gaozong. After Gaozong's death, she gradually consolidated power, eventually deposing her sons and establishing her own dynasty, the Zhou, becoming the only empress regnant in Chinese history.

During her reign, a prominent figure named Li Jingye led a rebellion against her. He commissioned the renowned scholar Luo Binwang to write a powerful proclamation denouncing Wu Zetian.

In this famous 'Proclamation Against Wu Zetian,' there was a line that read: '暗呜则山岳崩颓,叱咤则风云变经' (A mournful cry makes mountains collapse, a roar stirs up wind and clouds). This vivid imagery depicted the immense power and destructive potential of a commanding force, and it is from this context that '叱咤风云' came to describe someone or something possessing overwhelming power and influence, capable of causing great upheaval and dominating any situation.
