叱石成羊 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to perform a miracle”. To achieve an extraordinary or seemingly impossible feat through supernatural power or a magical command, often implying a transformative power. Literally, “Shout at stones and they become sheep”.
Legend has it that when Huang Chuping was 14 years old, he went to the mountains to herd sheep. There, he met a Taoist priest who took him to a stone house on Jinhua Mountain and imparted some miraculous skills to him.
Forty years passed in the blink of an eye. His elder brother, Huang Chuqi, came looking for him and asked where his sheep had gone.
Huang Chuping replied that they were on East Mountain. When his brother looked, he saw only stones. Huang Chuping then gave a shout at the stones, and instantly tens of thousands of sheep appeared.
