During the Western Han Dynasty, Yu Gong, a prison official in Donghai Commandery, was renowned for his integrity, honesty, and impartiality in enforcing the law.

He steadfastly advocated for a filial woman in the commandery who had been wronged, eventually securing her exoneration and rehabilitation under the new prefect.

The common people built a shrine for him while he was still alive, constructing its gate wide enough for a high carriage drawn by four horses to pass through.

His son, Yu Dingguo, later rose to the position of Grand Judge (Tingwei), bringing even greater honor to the Yu family.
