During the Eastern Han Dynasty, a scholar named Liang Hong, after completing his studies at the imperial academy, returned home to work as a farmer.
He married Meng Guang, the 30-year-old daughter of a wealthy local landlord. After their marriage, they chose to abandon the affluent life of the Meng family and moved to the Baling mountains to live in seclusion.
Later, they worked odd jobs for Gao Botong. Meng Guang used a thorn branch as a hairpin and wore clothes made of plain cloth. They lived in harmony and mutual respect, with Meng Guang always raising the tray to her eyebrows when serving food to Liang Hong, symbolizing their deep love and respect for each other.
