强弓劲弩 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “Powerful bows and strong crossbows”. Formidable weaponry, symbolizing great military might or a strong, effective force. Literally, “Strong bows and powerful crossbows”.
During the Warring States period, Su Qin, a renowned political strategist, traveled to the State of Han to persuade King Han to unite with five other states against the State of Qin. King Han granted him an audience.
Su Qin analyzed Han's advantageous terrain and its formidable military strength, boasting 'powerful bows and strong crossbows,' sturdy armor, sharp weapons, and well-trained, courageous soldiers. He argued that if Han were to submit to Qin in the west, it would only invite ridicule from the world.
Moved by Su Qin's words, King Han passionately declared, 'Even if I die, I will never serve Qin!'
