管仲随马 is a Chinese idiom (chengyu) meaning “to respect and follow the experience of predecessors”. To learn from experienced individuals and their practical wisdom. Literally, “Guan Zhong follows the horse”.
During the Spring and Autumn period, Duke Huan of Qi led his troops to attack the Shanrong people. Milu, the leader of Shanrong, sought refuge in Guzhu.
King Dalihe of Guzhu, following the advice of his prime minister Wulv, killed Milu, feigned surrender to the Qi army, and led them into the Dry Sea desert. The Qi army got lost in the vast desert.
Duke Huan of Qi then adopted Guan Zhong's suggestion: he selected several old horses from the northern desert to lead the way. The old horses successfully guided the Qi army out of the desert, and they seized the opportunity to conquer Guzhu.
