Story:

In 960 AD, Zhao Kuangyin established the Song Dynasty. He adopted a strategy of defeating rival states one by one, successively conquering regions like Jingnan, Hunan, and Later Shu.

In 974, he summoned Li Yu, the last ruler of the Southern Tang, to Bianjing (the capital) for an audience. Fearing he would be detained, Li Yu dispatched Xu Xuan to Bianjing to negotiate for peace. Emperor Taizu of Song directly stated: "How can one tolerate others sleeping soundly next to one's own bed?"
